One interesting fact that you may have discovered while planning your Disney vacation is that Disney fans are passionate about the Disney brand. Whether they love the films, the "Man Behind the Mouse", the characters, the toys, the resorts, the parks, the cruises, the Adventures by Disney, the weddings, the music and/or just the Mickey Mouse ice cream bars, Disney fanatics are loyal.
And loyal cruisers means extra fun devised by those who sailed before us!
You'll discover message boards created for your sailing date where you can "meet" fellow cruise mates before you even reach the port. There may be blogs and/or Facebook pages created by fellow passengers that you can follow.
One activity that loyal Disney cruisers sometimes partake in is the "Fish Extender" exchange. Let me show you our cabin door:
See the fish above our stateroom number 7500? Well, that fish is used by Cast Members and fellow passengers to leave mail. Think of the fish as an oversized paperclip or noteholder. In the spirit of creating more magic, the Fish Extender was devised to allow for larger packages to be delivered outside your door. I ordered my Fish Extender from Gradysmommy on Ebay. I highly recommend her!
When you discover a blog and/or message board created for your sailing date, it is likely that you'll also find a passenger that is setting up a Fish Extender Exchange for your voyage. If you sign up to participate, you'll receive the "rules" for your sailing. You'll likely be divided up into groups depending on the number of staterooms participating. On our cruise, we were assigned to group B with a total of 10 cabins in the group. We were assigned to give out our gifts on the first night.
I had assembled gift bags for each child as well as a gift bag for the parents. However, while delivering our Fish Extender gifts we were "short" on kid bags. I have no idea how that happened as I had also packed a few extra. But at least each cabin received at least one bag from us.
The assembled bag was tied and a personalized label was placed on the outside:
Adult/Family gift bags were fashioned like this:
Michael, Nicolas and I had a wonderful time delivering our gifts around the ship to the 9 other staterooms.
Yes, the gifts took up room in one of our suitcases but I knew that the extra space created after the gifts were removed would leave space for small souvenirs. It worked out very well!
