How to get one free meal in WDW?

So I divulged our festive, food frenzy at the Rainforest Cafe last Friday afternoon. But did I mention free? Well, almost free.

We do not usually order dessert. Thus, the meal is usually free for us.

Free? What's free?

Well, using mypoints, I usually obtain at least 1-2 gift cards by cashing in my points for Landry's gift cards which can be used at the Rainforest Cafe. Each gift card is worth $25. It takes 3500 points for one card. See www.mypoints.com for more info.

And guess what? There are two Rainforest Cafe locations on WDW property. One in Downtown Disney. One in the Animal Kingdom.

I like the Animal Kingdom location because it accepts reservations via 407-WDW-DINE. It does not require park admission as you can access the restaurant without actually entering the Animal Kingdom park. Take a bus or drive your car there.

If you let your child pick a place to eat

-he will likely choose a restaurant that includes noisy gorillas
-the noisy gorillas will become louder during the thunderstorm
-the thunderstorm will remind us how thirsty we are
-we will order caffeinated beverages because we are so tired
-being tired, we then order comfort food
-our son's comfort food choice will be a Gorilla Grilled Cheese
-After devouring the Gorilla sandwich, our son wishes he could have another one
-We remind our son of his dessert wish
-we splurge on a Volcano dessert
-If you splurge on a Volcano dessert, your two $25 gift cards will not cover the cost of the meal.

If your gift cards do not cover the cost of the meal, you've probably let your son pick the place to eat.

But then...you must admit that you also love the Rainforest Cafe, enjoy the loud gorillas, think the simulated storm is pretty cool, enjoyed your Blue Mountain Chicken Sandwich with safari fries and thought the Volcano dessert was delicious.

Because you enjoyed it so much...you didn't mind paying an extra $15 for the meal.

Truffle Trauma

I drank my green tea this morning.

Then I ate a truffle. I felt obligated to eat one. It was a gift. From WDW. For Mother’s Day.

I then answered some WDW questions. I’m addicted to helping people find the magic at Disney.

Then I thought about that truffle.

And I did my Couch Potato to 5K run. I’m still thinking about that truffle. Only because I also ate ice cream every day on vacation. I felt obligated of course. I only get to eat my favorite vanilla custard ice cream for one week out of the year at Kill Devil Hills.

And the scale had tipped… in the wrong direction.

So tomorrow I’m doing my 3 mile walk DVD and weights BEFORE I have my next truffle. Then I’ll wash it down with an 8 ounce bottle of water!
