Ever wonder why the Swan's building has waves and the building with Dolphins proudly displays banana leaves?
You may have strolled around the Boardwalk area at Walt Disney World and puzzled over the creation of these two buildings.
You are not alone.
But here you'll find a bit of insight into the creation of the WDW Swan and Dolphin.
I'm still a bit baffled though. But some back story may help:
Architect Michael Graves designed both hotels which are situated between Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios. Michael Eisner wanted to add convention type facilities to the WDW property and these two hotels were the result. But why so different? The Tishman Group was hired to create Epcot and felt that they had exclusive rights to building convention type hotels on WDW property. Thus, they are not owned by WDW.
However, these are deluxe resorts in a great location. The WDW Swan and Dolphin also provide enticing discounts throughout the year. Teachers, military personnel and nurses should especially inquire about a discount! Part of the Starwood hotel chain, Starwood points can be redeemed as well.
